Less cleaning & more time: how to seal your bathroom properly!

The bathroom is one of those places we go several times a day. Surely you all know the problems of limescale deposits or pollution, which can be very stubborn. For this reason, we recommend sealing the surfaces. The sealing means that water and dirt simply roll off. In this way, the cleanliness is maintained longer and the surfaces are easier to clean. Almost everything in the bathroom can be sealed – from the bathtub to the mirror to the windows . This video shows an example using the sink .

The preparation

There are countless residues and deposits on a washbasin that form in everyday life: soap, fingerprints, lime . Before the liquid glass can be applied, the surface must be cleaned absolutely residue-free, as shown in the video – preferably with isopropanol or Ethanol, as this dissolves all fat compounds.

The reason for the intensive pre-cleaning is the incredibly small thickness of the liquid glass coating. This is around 100 times thinner than a human fingerprint. Thus, before applying the seal, it must be ensured that the pre-cleaning has been carried out conscientiously.

The application of the nano sealant

After cleaning, the wash basin is rubbed dry with a separate cloth in order to then apply the liquid glass. A small amount is enough to seal the entire wash bake. The liquid glass sealant can be applied to the object with a spray bottle and a cloth . (Alternatively, an application sponge or microfiber cloth can also be used)

After a waiting time of 10 minutes, the coating is polished to remove excess and to obtain the expected gloss of the surface. Depending on the environment, it may be advisable to turn off the water so that the fittings are not used accidentally and the seals are not damaged. After approx. 24 hours, the seal is hardened and can be used as usual.

Which surfaces can be sealed in the bathroom?

Bathrooms are often damp and humid environments that can be prone to mold growth, stains and water damage. Professional sealing or impregnation can help to maintain the durability and appearance of your bathroom surfaces. For example, limescale stains are less able to adhere to glass shower cubicles and mold is less able to adhere to tiles. In addition, nano sealing helps to reduce the build-up of bacteria on ceramic surfaces, such as the toilet. A list of surfaces and suitable products can be found below:

  1. Ceramic surfaces (washbasin, toilet, bidet)
  2. Glass surfaces (shower walls, mirrors)
  3. Tiles (glazed)
  4. Natural stone (marble, granite, slate, sandstone)
  5. Wood (furniture, shelves, wall paneling)
  6. Metal (fittings, towel rails, accessories)
  7. Concrete (floor, worktops, washbasin)
  8. Textiles (shower curtains, bath mats)

What are the advantages of bathroom sealing?

As previously mentioned, there are a variety of surfaces that can be sealed in the bathroom. The main advantage of sealing in the bathroom is the moisture protection and self-cleaning effect. The individual nano sealants use the lotus effect, or beading effect, which significantly reduces the amount of cleaning required and increases the protective function. Water stains, limescale stains or soap residue do not adhere to the surfaces and can be easily removed.

The humid environment in the bathroom often makes it easy for mold and bacteria to accumulate. The sealant also helps here, as it prevents moisture from penetrating the material. The surface protection is reinforced so that the material remains as good as new for longer.

Frequently asked questions about sealing tiles

What is tile sealing?

Tile sealing is a process in which a protective layer is applied to the surface of the tiles to protect them from dirt, moisture and other harmful influences.

What are the advantages of sealing tiles in the bathroom?

Sealing tiles in the bathroom makes them waterproof, protects against limescale stains and makes cleaning easier, as dirt and water stains cannot penetrate the surface as easily.

What types of sealing are there besides nano sealing?

In addition to nano sealing, there are also other sealing methods such as polishing, sealing, impregnating and coating to protect and maintain the surface of the tiles.

What should I bear in mind when sealing tiles in the bathroom and kitchen?

Before you seal the tiles, you should make sure that the surface is clean, dry and free of mold. Select the appropriate sealing product for the specific requirements of the room.

How long is the drying time after sealing tiles?

The drying time after sealing tiles can vary depending on the product. It is recommended that the manufacturer’s instructions are followed and that the tiles are not loaded again until they are completely dry.

How often should I seal my bathroom?

The frequency of sealing depends on the material and the wear and tear on the surface. In general, sealants should be renewed every 1-3 years, depending on wear and tear and the quality of the sealant.

How can I prevent mold growth in the bathroom by sealing it?

The right sealant can help prevent mold growth by keeping moisture away from surfaces and making rooms easier to clean. Make sure you use a suitable sealant and ensure that the bathroom is well ventilated. However, the sealant does not actively combat mold growth, which is why mold can still form in isolated cases. However, this can then be removed more easily.

Can I seal my bathroom myself or should I hire a professional?

You can seal your bathroom yourself if you have the necessary knowledge and skills and are familiar with the materials and the process. You will find all the information you need in our article. Take a look at the video, which explains the individual steps.
